What is the UP Electric Vehicle Subsidy Scheme 2024?
Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Subsidy Scheme is a subsidy scheme by the Uttar Pradesh Government to encourage the buying of electric vehicles in the State. The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). Starting from October 14, 2022, the government has decided to waive road tax and registration fees for three years on the purchase of EVs. This exemption extends to EVs manufactured within the state, with a validity period of five years. The Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2024 has been introduced to provide substantial incentives to both EV buyers and manufacturers, aiming to boost the adoption of EVs in the state.
Residents of Uttar Pradesh who own electric cars or electric two-wheelers can now benefit from the Electric Vehicle (EV) subsidy scheme. The policy encompasses a wide range of electric vehicles, including those powered by batteries, ultracapacitors, or fuel cells. This includes two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV), and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV).

UP EV Subsidy Scheme Objective
UP EV Subsidy Scheme aims to encourage the adoption of Electric Vehicles in Uttar Pradesh, providing a subsidy to customers who have purchased electric vehicles in the state. To avail of the purchase subsidy, applicants must submit their applications on the web portal.
According to the policy, a complete tax exemption will be granted on EVs sold and registered in Uttar Pradesh from October 14, 2022, to October 13, 2025. In the subsequent two years, from October 14, 2025, to October 13, 2027, a 100% rebate will be offered on EVs manufactured, sold, and registered within the state.
UP EV Subsidy Scheme Benefits
Under the framework of this subsidy initiative, an early bird incentive in the form of a purchase subsidy is offered to individuals applying for the acquisition of electric vehicles. The designated platform for availing of this incentive is the “Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Purchase Subsidy Portal.
Individual buyers are eligible for the purchase subsidy only when acquiring a single 2-wheeler, 4-wheeler, e-bus, or e-goods carrier. Aggregators or fleet operators, on the other hand, can avail of the subsidy on a maximum of ten 2-wheelers or 4-wheelers and a maximum of five e-buses or e-goods carriers.
Each buyer is entitled to the purchase subsidy only once during the effective duration of this scheme. The approved “Purchase Subsidy” will be provided as reimbursement, directly transferred to the buyer after verification from the dealer.
In cases where the vehicle is purchased without a battery, only 50 percent of the permissible “purchase subsidy” will be granted.
Projects benefiting from incentives under this policy are ineligible for incentives from any other state government policy. The incentives outlined in this policy are applicable in addition to those available in the schemes/policies of the Government of India.

UP EV Subsidy Scheme Subsidy Amount
The Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Subsidy Scheme is designed to offer a one-time benefit to buyers and is valid for one year from the date of notification. The subsidy will be granted through an early bird incentive approach, and the subsidy rates are as follows:
- 2-Wheeler EVs: A subsidy of 15% of the ex-factory cost, up to Rs 5000 per vehicle, with a maximum budget outlay of Rs 100 Crore, benefiting a maximum of 2 Lac EVs.
- 4-Wheeler EVs: A subsidy of 15% of the ex-factory cost, up to Rs 1 lakh per vehicle, subject to a maximum budget outlay of Rs 250 Crore, benefiting a maximum of 25,000 EVs.
- E-Buses (Non-Governmental, such as school buses, ambulances, etc.): A subsidy of 15% of the ex-factory cost, up to Rs 20 lakh per vehicle, with a maximum budget outlay of Rs 80 Crore, benefiting a maximum of 400 E-Buses.
- E-Goods Carriers: A subsidy of 10% of the ex-factory cost, up to Rs 1,00,000 per vehicle, subject to a maximum budget outlay of Rs 10 Crore, benefiting a maximum of 1000 E-Goods Carriers.

- To initiate the application process, the applicant must first generate login credentials (login ID and password) on the Electric Vehicle Purchase Subsidy Portal, following the system provided by the portal.
- The applicant is obligated to upload their photograph and signature. It is crucial to note that the applicant should upload the same photograph and signature submitted through the dealer during the vehicle registration on the vehicle portal.
- As part of the bank account verification process, the applicant must upload a Cancelled Cheque or Passbook. The bank account must be in the name of the applicant, and the acceptance of another person’s bank account will not be allowed.
- Before finalizing the application submission, the applicant will verify the accuracy of all provided details, including those related to the vehicle and the applicant’s personal information. Inaccurate or incomplete information may render the applicant ineligible for the purchase subsidy.

To obtain the purchase subsidy, eligible applicants must submit their applications through the web portal. To apply online for the UP Electric Vehicle Subsidy, follow the steps outlined below:

- Upon reaching the website, the home page will be accessible.
- Locate and click on the “Apply Online” option on the home page.
- Clicking on the option will open the Registration Form.
- Enter all the required information accurately such as Vehicle Number, and Last 5 Digit Numbers in the provided fields of the application form.
- Upload your signature, photograph, and any necessary documents as specified.
- Subsequently, click on the “Submit” option to finalize your application.
- Your application will undergo a verification process to assess your eligibility.

Please Note: Buyers of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the state of Uttar Pradesh are granted a full exemption, at a rate of 100 percent, from both registration fees and road taxes when purchasing and registering EVs within three years from the date of the policy announcement on October 14, 2022.
For Electric Vehicles (EVs) manufactured, purchased, and registered in Uttar Pradesh during the fourth and fifth years of the policy’s effective period, a 100 percent exemption on registration fees and road taxes is also applicable.
The necessary provisions for implementing this exemption have been incorporated into the Vahan 4.0 software. Buyers can avail of this discount through dealer point registration during the registration process.
