Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, is inviting applications from undergraduate, postgraduate, and research pursuing students for an internship scheme. This internship aims to give exposure to the students to understand the working culture of Govt. of India and exposure to the schemes being run by this Department. 

The Internship Scheme is available year-round, allowing applicants to select a duration ranging from one month to three months based on their needs. Applications will be accepted exclusively through online mode. Also, the students will be awarded a stipend of Rs 10,000 per month. Students enrolled in undergraduate, postgraduate, or research programs in the fields of Engineering, Management, Law, Economics, Finance, Computer Science, and Library Management are eligible to apply.

DPIIT Internship Scheme Objective 

The primary objective of the internship scheme is to provide students with an opportunity to gain insight into the operational dynamics of the Government of India and familiarize them with the various schemes administered by this Department.

DPIIT Internship Scheme Important Dates (Revised)

The online portal on DPIIT’s website will now be accessible from March 1st to April 30th and from September 1st to October 31st each year for accepting internship applications from students. Applications submitted between March 1st and April 30th will be considered for internships during the June to August period. The database of students who applied during this period will be cleared from the server by the end of August. Applications received between September 1st and October 31st will be considered for internships during the November to January period. The database of students who applied during this period will be cleared from the server by the end of January.

DPIIT Internship Scheme Benefits 2024

  • Interns will receive a monthly stipend of ₹ 10,000 (Ten Thousand Rupees).
  • Payment processing for the stipend will commence upon completion of the internship.
  • The internship duration ranges from a minimum of one month to a maximum of three months.
  • Upon completion of the internship, students will receive an Experience Certificate from the respective section where they worked.

  • The internship duration must be a minimum of one month and a maximum of three months. Upon successful completion of the internship, students will receive an Experience Certificate. However, those who fail to complete the required internship period satisfactorily will not receive any certificate or stipend.

Upon Selection, Submission Required:

  • Letter from Head of Institution/Department/Principal confirming the applicant’s status.
  • “No Objection Certificate (NOC)” from the Head of Institution/Department/Principal permitting the student to participate in the internship.

Upon Completion of Internship, Submission Required:

  • Brief report/paper detailing the internship experience to be submitted to the respective Divisional Head.

DPIIT Internship Scheme Selection Process

  • All applications received through online mode will be centralized in the Establishment Division.
  • Sections/divisions will communicate their need for interns to the Establishment Division.
  • Upon receiving a request for interns from a specific division/section, the Establishment Division will provide the database of available applications for that discipline.
  • The concerned division/section will transparently select the student(s) based on their requirements with approval from the respective Wing Head (AS/JS/DDG) and inform the Establishment G Section.
  • The Establishment G Section will then seek approval from Dir/DS(Estt) and extend internship offers to the selected interns.
  • Payment processing for the stipend will be initiated by the Establishment G Section after the internship period concludes. Interns must submit a certificate confirming the successful completion of their assigned work, issued by the respective section where they worked.
  • The Divisional Head will ensure that the agreed-upon work program and output with the intern are satisfactorily completed. Interns are required to submit a brief report/paper about their learning experience to the concerned Divisional Head upon completion of their assignment.
  • The attendance record and work supervision details will be maintained by the respective Division/Section.
  • The conduct of interns and their access to data will be the sole responsibility of the concerned Divisional Head.

Earlier there wasn’t a deadline for applying to this scheme. However, now the registration will open only two times a year i.e. March 1st to April 30th, and September 1st to October 31st each year. No. DPIIT is not an online internship. During COVID, it was shifted to online but now it will be an offline internship that will take place in designated areas.
