What is Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana?

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana is a government-backed scheme for pregnant/ lactating mothers to help them provide all the nutrition during the pregnancy. It was first launched in 2010 under the name of Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana, later renamed and relaunched by PM Modi in 2017 as Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. It comes under the Ministry of Women and Child Development where the department provides an incentive of Rs 5000 to each woman in three installments.

It has been implemented in all the districts of the country by the provision of the National Food Security Act, of 2013. Under this scheme, any pregnant woman who fulfills the criteria will get the incentive through Direct Bank Transfer mode.   • To offer a monetary incentive as partial compensation for income loss, enabling women to take sufficient rest before and after delivering their first child.
  • To enhance the health-seeking practices of pregnant women and lactating mothers, fostering positive behavioral changes.
  • To encourage a positive shift in attitudes towards girl children, an additional cash incentive will be provided for the second child if it is a girl.
  • The assistance is accessible to a woman for her initial two surviving children, specifically granting a sum of ₹5000 in two installments for the first child. 
  • For the second child, an amount of ₹6000 will be provided in a single installment, contingent upon the second child being a girl. However, it’s imperative to register during pregnancy to qualify for benefits for the second child.

How to Apply for PMMVYsoft MIS? | How to Track the Application Status of PMMVY?

Here are a few simple steps you can follow to enroll in the scheme through PMMVYsoft. 

  • Login to PMMVY official website using this URL – Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. You can log in at the upright corner. 
  • Enter your 10-digit mobile number and click on Verify.

  • After that, an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter that OTP.

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana Benefits 

Here are some benefits of the PMMVY scheme 

  1. The beneficiary will get a cash incentive of Rs 5000 in three installments. 
    • In the first installment, the beneficiary will get a sum of Rs 1000/ – on early registration of pregnancy at the Anganwadi Centre (AWC) / approved Health facility as may be identified by the respective administering State / UT.
    • In the second installment, the beneficiary will get a sum of Rs 2000/ – after six months of pregnancy on receiving at least one ante-natal check-up (ANC) 
    • In the third installment, she will get a sum of Rs 2000  after childbirth is registered and the child has received the first cycle of BCG, OPV, DPT, and Hepatitis – B, or its equivalent/ substitute.
  2. The eligible beneficiaries of PMMVY would receive the incentive given under the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) for Institutional delivery and the incentive received under JSY would be accounted towards maternity benefits so that on average a woman gets Rs 6000. 
  3. In case of the second child also being a girl, a single installment of Rs 6000 will be provided by the government.

Who are the Target Beneficiaries of the PMMVY scheme?

  1. All Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers are targeting beneficiaries excluding those who are in regular employment with the Central Government the State Governments or PSUs or those who receive similar benefits under any law. 
  2. All eligible Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers who have their pregnancy on or after January 01, 2017, for the first child only in the family.
  3. The date and stage of pregnancy for a beneficiary would be counted concerning her LMP date as mentioned in the MCP card.
  4. Pregnant and Lactating AWWs/ AWHs/ ASHA may also avail the benefits under the PMMVY subject to fulfillment of scheme conditionalities.

In Case of Child Miscarriage/ StillBirth, what are the rules?

In case of miscarriage/stillbirth, the beneficiary would be eligible to claim the remaining installment(s) in the event of any future pregnancy.

  • After receiving the 1st installment, if the beneficiary has a miscarriage, she would only be eligible for receiving 2nd and 3rd installments in the event of future pregnancy subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria and conditionalities of the PMMVY scheme.
  • If the beneficiary has a miscarriage or stillbirth after receiving 1st and 2nd installments, she would only be eligible for receiving 3rd installment in the event of future pregnancy subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria and conditionalities of the scheme.

What About Child Immortality in the PMMVY Scheme?

Unfortunately, in the case of child mortality, if the mother has taken all the installments, she won’t be able to take the benefit for the second time as the scheme is available for one time only. 

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana Eligibility Criteria

You need to fulfill the following requirements to apply for the PMMVY Scheme. Here are some PMMVY eligibility you need to possess. 

  • You must be a female
  • You must be pregnant
  • You must be employed and experiencing wage loss due to the pregnancy
  • You must be 19 years of age or above
  • Please note that this PMMVY scheme is applicable only for the first live birth.

The criteria for identifying socially and economically disadvantaged segments of the population are as follows:

  • Women from scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.
  • Women who are partially (40%) or fully disabled (Divyang Jan).
  • Women holding BPL ration cards.
  • Women beneficiaries are covered under Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PMJAY) as part of Ayushman Bharat.
  • Women with E-shram cards.
  • Women farmers benefiting from Kishan Samman Nidhi.
  • Women possessing MGNREGA Job Cards.
  • Women with a net family income below Rs. 8 lakh per annum.
  • Pregnant and lactating Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs).
  • Any other category specified by the Central Government. 

Who is excluded from the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana?

There are certain restrictions/guidelines by the government on who cannot apply for the PMMVY scheme. Those are as follows.

  • The applicant must not be availing any paid maternity scheme or a paid maternity leave from their employer.
  • The applicant must not be in regular employment with the Central Government or the State Governments or PSUs
  • If the applicant has already taken the benefit of the scheme once during the first live birth. 

How to Register for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana?

  • To register for the PMMVY scheme, you need to visit the nearest Anganwadi Centre or any approved Health facility depending upon the implementing department for that particular State /UT.
  • After that, submit the application Form 1 – A  which you will get from the center itself free of cost. 
  • Along with the form, you need to submit all the relevant documents and undertaking/consent duly signed by you and her husband, at the AWC/ approved Health facility.
  • While submitting the form, you will be required to submit your and your husband’s Aadhaar details with their written consent, your Mobile Number, and your Bank/Post Office account details.

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana Documents Required

As stated earlier, you will get the claim in three installments and for all three, you have to submit all the required documents separately. Here are all the documents you need while claiming the first, second and third installments under PMMVY scheme.

First Installment:

  1. Duly filled Form 1A
  2. MCP(Mother and Child Protection) Card
  3. Copy of Identity Proof (Beneficiary and Beneficiary Husband Aadhaar Card)
  4. Beneficiary Passbook or Account Proof or Bank Account Proof document.
  5. LMP(Last Menstrual Period) Date.
  6. (Documents to be submitted within 150 days from the last menstrual date)

Second Installment:

  1. Duly filled Form 1B

As of December 03,2021 report of PIB Delhi, maternity benefits of ₹9420.58 crores (including Central and State share) have been disbursed amongst more than 2.17 crores eligible beneficiaries under PMMVY since inception of the scheme. This number is impressive, which means the scheme is being implemented rightly. You can check the linked bank by visiting the Aadhar Card Centre. The beneficiary’s mobile number linked with Aadhaar will receive an OTP to verify the bank to which the Aadhaar is seeded.
