In a country like India, even today, it is the common notion that the arrival of a girl in a family is a financial burden on her parents or guardians, particularly in the context of marriage. Therefore, many families do not want to welcome a girl child. At the census of 2011, the sex ratio is 943 females per 1000 males. To combat the practice of female foeticide, many initiatives have been launched by the Indian government. Apart from the central government, almost every state takes extra care to curb this practice. The government of Goa, launched the “Goa Laadli Laxmi Scheme” to provide financial assistance at the time of marriage of a girl child.
