Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana
The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a scheme specifically designed for the financial well-being of a girl child, introduced by the Ministry of Finance. Launched on January 22, 2015, by the Prime Minister, the initiative aims to assist parents in preparing for their daughter’s education and marriage expenses.
Applications for the SSY can be submitted at Post Offices or branches of Public Sector Banks, as well as selected Private Sector Banks such as HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, and ICICI Bank. The account can be initiated by a parent or legal guardian for a girl child under the age of 10. Each girl child is eligible for only one account, and a family can open a maximum of two SSY accounts.
The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) necessitates a minimum annual investment of ₹250 and allows a maximum investment of ₹1,50,000. The scheme has a maturity period of 21 years, featuring a prevailing interest rate of 8.0%. Notably, the deposited principal amount, the accrued interest over the tenure, and the maturity benefits all enjoy tax exemption. The principal amount is eligible for deduction under section 80C, up to ₹1,50,000.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao
