What is Amrit Brikshya Andolan?
Amrit Briksya Andolan is a plantation drive announced by Chief Minister Himant Biswa on June 08, 2023. This scheme has been launched to increase the forest cover and make Assam greener and more eco-friendly. Under this scheme, the target of 1 crore Seedlings is to be planted on September 17, 2023, between 9 AM and 11 AM across the state.
The state government has asked everyone to participate in this cause. To make it more impactful, the government has announced the financial benefits of doing the same. Any individual provided he is not a government employee can plant seedlings which he/she can get free of cost at nearby centers. For each plantation, an individual will get Rs 300 (100 immediate and Rs. 200 to be paid in 3rd Year on survival of the plant. Commercial tree planting will be done by Self Help Group Members, ASHA workers, supervisors, Police, Educational institutes, Anganwadi workers, etc.

- Bogipoma: Chukrasia tabularis or Bogipoma wood, the Indian mahogany, belongs to the Meliaceae family. Amrit Brikshya Andolan 2023 Plantation Drive
The biggest plantation drive on September 17, 2023, is going to happen in Assam. The major contribution to plant seedlings will be made by Self Help Groups.
On September 17, about 40 lakh members of women’s self-help groups throughout the state will have an important job. They’ll plant two saplings each that can be sold. This makes a total of 80 lakh saplings. Others, like Anganwadi workers, tea garden workers, and regular people, will plant the rest.
