What is NACO Internship 2024?

The National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) Internship Programme for 2024 presents an opportunity facilitated by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, targeting students enrolled in undergraduate, postgraduate, M.Phil., and Ph.D. degree programs across different disciplines. Upon successful completion of the internship, selected participants will be entitled to a monthly stipend of ₹8,000.

The internship offers opportunities in several priority areas, including secondary data analysis of ICTC and PPTCT programs, MSM interventions, EID program, primary research, and data analysis on community perceptions of the HIV/AIDS Act, 2017, and the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2018.

NACO Internship Benefits

  • Interns will receive a stipend of ₹8,000 per month upon successful completion of their internship, submission, and acceptance of their internship reports by the Reporting Officer, and satisfactory performance certified by the HoD. 
  • It’s important to note that interns who discontinue the internship will not receive any remuneration from NACO.
  • Certificates will be issued upon satisfactory completion of the internship and submission and acceptance of the reports. However, students who discontinue the internship will not be awarded any certificate by NACO.
  • NACO will not cover expenses such as travel costs, and no claims for such expenses will be entertained.
  • Interns from outside Delhi/New Delhi will need to arrange their stay/accommodation at their own expense.
  • Necessary office logistics support, including workspace, stationery, and photocopying facilities, will be provided to interns. It’s important to note that interns must have their laptop computers and internet connectivity.

NACO Internship Important Guidelines

Number of Interns:

The number of interns may vary depending on NACO’s needs and the volume of applications. However, there will never be more than 10 interns at any given time.

Enrollment:

Enrollment for internships will remain open year-round and placements will be offered based on the requirements of different programs.

Duration:

Internships will last a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 3 months, under the requirements of the study program. There are no restrictions on candidates applying for a second internship with NACO.

Placement:

Interns will be placed in selected program divisions within NACO or rotated through different divisions as required by their study program. It’s important to note that the internship program does not guarantee employment within the National AIDS Control Organisation or any other Ministry/Department of the Government of India.

Reporting:

Interns are expected to report to NACO, submit their joining report, and work under the close supervision of the respective Head of Division (HOD). The available areas for an internship at NACO are listed in Annexure III of the Scheme Guidelines.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Interns are expected to adhere to a standard schedule of activities, observe division functions, participate in activities, conduct data analysis and research, prepare reports, undertake field visits, and perform any other tasks assigned by the HOD/Reporting Officer.

NACO Internship Eligibility Criteria 

This scheme is available to students enrolled in undergraduate, postgraduate, M.Phil, and PhD programs across various disciplines such as Preventive & Social Medicine, Public Health, Health Management, Statistics, Social Sciences, etc. (this list is illustrative and not exhaustive) from recognized and reputable universities. These students are eligible to apply for the internship program.

Preference will be given to applicants with outstanding academic records, as well as to research scholars and candidates who have undertaken project work relevant to NACO’s activities or aligned with NACP.

Exclusions:

Candidates whose internships have been terminated or who have discontinued before completing the designated duration will not be considered for future batches.

NACO Internship Documents Required

During Application:

  1. A write-up of no more than 500 words explaining how the student’s academic pursuits and the National AIDS Control Programme will mutually benefit from the internship.
  2. Copies of at least three identification documents, including passport and Aadhar card/Voter ID/PAN Card for Indian nationals, and passport, OCI card, and National Identity Card for OCI card holders.
  3. Curriculum Vitae.
  4. An introductory letter from the Head of the Institution on official stationery confirming the applicant’s current or past enrollment.
  5. A no-objection certificate from the University/Institution if pursuing the internship alongside ongoing studies. The prescribed format is available in Annexure IV of the Scheme Guidelines.
  6. Self-attested certificates and transcripts for all educational qualifications, current courses, and projects mentioned in the Application Form.

Upon Joining:

  1. Photograph.
  2. Proof of Identity (Voter ID/PAN/Aadhar/Passport).
  3. Approval Letter from the Dean/Principal of the College/University.
  4. (For international students) Travel documents.
  5. (For international students) Approval Letter from the Institute.

Upon Completion:

  1. A report detailing the area of internship/study.

NACO Internship Application Process

Selection Process:

Step 1: The Internship Committee will review all applications.

Step 2: The Committee may conduct personal interactions/interviews, either face-to-face or through electronic media (phone, Skype, etc.), with applicants.
